Under the leadership of scientists from the Department of Translational Medical Oncology at the NCT Heidelberg, Peter Horak and Simon Kreutzfeldt, an international collaboration has developed the first set of standards for the classification of somatic genetic variants in neoplasms and recently published them in Genetics in Medicine. This pioneering work sets the stage for further harmonization of variant analysis and reporting. It thus facilitates cross-institutional collaboration in precision oncology, leading to better care for cancer patients.
