Palliative Care at NCT Heidelberg

The Department of Palliative Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) offers patients and their relatives at NCT Heidelberg comprehensive advisory and outpatient advice and treatment - especially in the case of severe, advanced illnesses, complex physical and psychosocial stress or in critical situations.

Often additional expertise and resources are needed when it comes to

  • treatment of refractory symptoms (pain, shortness of breath, nausea, etc.),
  • oncological supportive therapy,
  • acute medical crisis planning
  • ethically relevant questions,
  • psychosocial support,
  • care planning (bridge care of the Department of Palliative Medicine), or
  • the home care situation itself (SAPV team SAPHiR).

In this way, patients of the NCT can be cared for by the palliative medical outpatient clinic as a fixed consultation hour in the NCT Heidelberg as well as by short-term, low-threshold visits within the framework of the existing appointments in the day clinics at NCT Heidelberg. There is a close connection with the other counseling services at NCT (social services, psycho-oncology, nutritional, physical activity, ethics consultation, etc.).

In this way, comprehensive, multi-professional, early and cross-sector support can be provided even in particularly stressful situations.
