Four new locations of the NCT

As part of the National Decade Against Cancer, four new locations for the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) are to be built nationwide. The decision on the locations at which the new NCT should be built was announced by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research ("Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF") as the result of a competitive application process on September 23. Berlin, Cologne / Essen, Tübingen / Stuttgart-Ulm and Würzburg with its partners Erlangen, Regensburg and Augsburg were selected. The Ministry followed the recommendation of an international committee of experts. The BMBF plans to provide up to 13 million euros per year for each new center.

Threads that form a network

Cancer research and patient care under one roof

Like the already existing NCT in Heidelberg and Dresden, the new NCT locations are to combine top-quality patient-related research and oncological patient care under one roof and offer tailor-made diagnostics and therapy based on the latest research as part of innovative translational and clinical trials.

The expansion is intended to create a network that will radiate across the whole of Germany, which will enable highly competitive translational cancer research on an international level and provide appropriate research platforms. The aim is to translate promising results from cancer research into clinical application more quickly and to improve the care of cancer patients throughout Germany.
