Breast Cancer Center

The Breast Center at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), together with the Gynecological Oncology Section at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg, forms the core of the Breast Cancer Center, which was first certified in 2003. Since 2025, there has also been joint certification with the Breast Center at St. Elisabeth Hospital. This recognizes the excellent interdisciplinary care of breast cancer patients, which has been provided in Heidelberg at the highest medical level for many years. The Breast Center at the Heidelberg Oncology Center is headed by Dr. Andrea Lemke (Breast Cancer Center UKHD) and Prof. Jörg Heil (Breast Center St. Elisabeth Clinic).

Both breast centers offer a comprehensive range of services: from modern diagnostics to breast-conserving and reconstructive surgery, radiation and systemic therapy, to psycho-oncological support and genetic counseling. Participation in clinical studies and cooperation with private practitioners and other partners in the network are also well established at both locations.

The cooperative breast center at NCT Heidelberg is one of the largest in Germany, with a high number of patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent/metastatic breast cancer.

The university orientation ensures optimal care for patients with breast cancer. All experienced specialized cooperation partners work together on an interdisciplinary basis to create an individualized and tailor-made therapy concept for each individual patient. Close cooperation with the NCT Heidelberg and links to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) provide access to the latest scientific findings.
