Colorectal cancer is one of the most common diseases in women and men in Germany. The Colorectal Cancer Center at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) has been certified according to the criteria of the German Cancer Society (DKG) since 2021. The certification confirms the fulfillment of high quality requirements as well as an intensive interdisciplinary and multiprofessional cooperation of the disciplines involved. The Colorectal Cancer Center is part of the Oncology Center of Excellence of the National Center for Tumor Diseases Heidelberg.
The Colorectal Cancer Center ensures the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer at the highest medical level. Diagnostics and therapy not only take into account the latest findings from science and research, but above all the individual wishes and needs of each patient. Pioneering new treatment options are offered to patients of the Colorectal Cancer Center in controlled clinical trials.
Specialists in visceral surgery, gastroenterology, radiotherapy, hematology/oncology, pathology and radiology work together as the main treatment partners of the Colorectal Cancer Center. In the tumor conferences, an individual and tailored diagnostic and therapeutic concept is developed for each patient after interdisciplinary discussion. For patients treated externally, the center offers the possibility of obtaining an interdisciplinary second opinion.
In addition to the main treatment partners, the Colorectal Cancer Center has at its disposal a multiprofessional team from the areas of psycho-oncology, social services, stoma therapy, nutritional counseling, physiotherapy, genetics, pain therapy and self-help group as well as palliative care.
