NCT Heidelberg

Lung Cancer Center

As one of the first German clinics, Thoraxklinik Heidelberg has been certified Lung Cancer Center according to the German Cancer Aid since 2009. The certification mainly confirms the center’s compliance with the high quality requirements as well as an intense interdisciplinary and multi-professional collaboration of the involved specialist disciplines. Today, the clinic is Germany’s largest Lung Cancer Center. It is integrated in the National Center for Tumor Diseases Heidelberg.

Heidelberg’s Lung Cancer Center guarantees the treatment of lung cancer patients at the highest medical level. Diagnostics and treatment are not only based on latest scientific and research findings; the patients’ individual wishes are of major importance, too. By participating in controlled clinical trials, patients of the Lung Cancer Center are offered new groundbreaking therapy options.

When it comes to treatment, Heidelberg’s Lung Cancer Center mainly works together with experts of the Department of Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine (head: Prof. Dr. med. F. J. Herth), the Department of Thoracic Surgery (head: Prof. Dr. med. H. Winter), the Department of Thoracic Oncology (head: Prof. Dr. med. M. Thomas), and the Clinic for Radiation Oncology and Radiation Therapy (head: Prof. Dr. med. Dr. rer. nat. Debus). During daily tumor boards, the experts discuss the different cases and draw up personalized diagnostic and therapy concepts for each patient.

To offer its patients a holistic care, a multi-professional team of psycho-oncologists, respiratory and physiotherapists, nutritionists and pastoral workers is available at the Lung Cancer Center. Moreover, the center provides counsel for smokers and offers nicotine withdrawal programs.
