Prof. Hermann Brenner, head of the DKFZ Division of Clinical Epidemiology and Aging Research, serves as temporary head of the Division Preventive Oncology since November 2014. Under his leadership, a research program in the field of secondary prevention has been implemented focusing on enhanced screening strategies for early detection of cancer and cancer prevention. Two major studies within the framework of the NCT 3.0 program were launched in 2016: the GEKKO study (study launch in January 2016) and the DARIO study (study launch in September 2016 – end of study June 2020).
Preventive Oncology
Since 2020, the LEO study has been recruiting participants in the age group 30-49 as part of the NCT "Proof of Concept Trial" program in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Endoscopy Center (IEZ) Heidelberg of the Medical Clinic of Heidelberg University Medical Center.
Another focus under development is risk-adapted prevention, a work group under the leadership of Prof. Mahdi Fallah.
