Young classical stars will perform in third NCT charity concert „1.174 musical bars against cancer“

NCT charity concert on September 30th 2017 in the municipal hall Heidelberg / Young German Philharmonic conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste with pianist Tzimon Barto / donations for cancer research

The audience will become part of the music. Once again this year, there will be no tickets or seats on sale for the third NCT charity concert but instead musical bars of the composition. 1.174 musical bars to be precise. If the musical bars are not completely sold, parts of the composition will remain silent. Conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste, the Young German Philharmonic will present compositions of Kaija Saariaho, Sergej Prokofieff and Carl Nielsen. The young talents will play Prokofieff’s concert for orchestra and piano together with start pianist Tzimon Barto. Proceeds will benefit the cancer research of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg.
The NCT Heidelberg is a joint institution of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Aid.

For the third time, the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg organizes the charity concert “Musical bars against cancer” on September 30th 2017. “The unique concert format only exists in Heidelberg. Each musical bar has its unalterable place within the composition. Bars that nobody buys will remain silent. Therefore, we hope many people will become part of this unique performance”, says Managing Director of the NCT, Christof von Kalle. The discontinuation of the composition at a certain bar represents a drastic symbol for cancer: the diagnosis often comes similarly surprising and unpredictable.

The Young German Philharmonic assembles the best musical students of Germany and forms them into one of the most demanded German orchestras. The musicians, who are between the ages of 18 and 28, gather several times a year for concentrated rehearsal sessions and international concert tours or guest performances afterwards. The Orchestra of the Future will be playing the composition Laterna Magica of Kaija Saariaho, the fourth symphony op. 29 (the indelible) of Carl Nielsen and the concert for piano and orchestra no. 3 C-Dur op. 26 of Sergej Prokofief, conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste. The soloist of this years’ NCT charity concert will be Tzimon Barto. Being one of the best pianists of the present, he delights his fans on both sides of the Atlantic.

In order to enjoy this high-quality concert life, musical bars can be purchased online at www.nct-takte.de or at several presale locations for 35 Euros. Purchasing a musical bar will contribute to keep more than just a composition “intact”.

All proceeds of the musical bar sale will directly contribute innovative projects of cancer research at the NCT Heidelberg. If all bars are sold, music enthusiasts can look forward to a complete concert, which will substantially support cancer research.
