The Cancer Information Service (KID) invites cancer patients and anyone interested in the topic to the online event "Environmental cancer risk" on 25 April 2024 from 4 to 6 pm.

Particulate matter, dioxins, radon, asbestos, etc. – these are just some of the harmful environmental influences that can affect human health. Some substances may even have an impact on the risk of cancer. So, how dangerous are these cancer-causing environmental factors really? And how threatening are they compared to lifestyle-related risks such as smoking, an unbalanced diet and too little exercise? How can we best protect ourselves from carcinogenic substances and radiation?
In his lecture, Hans Drexler explains how cancer develops and what the terms "hazard" and "risk" mean. He is Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Public Health at Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) Erlangen-Nuremberg, a board member of the German Society for Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the former Director of the Institute for Occupational, Social and Environmental Medicine at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. Then, together with Beatrice Kunz, he'll answer some of the most common questions people ask the KID. Beatrice Kunz is a doctor in the science management working group of the KID at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) and works on the topic of "Environment and Cancer".
