Artificial intelligence in medicine: Titus Brinker on SWR1 Leute

It's no longer a vision: digitalisation and AI-supported applications have already arrived in everyday medical practice. Their increasingly rapid developments raise questions: what will the medicine of the future look like? What opportunities do digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) offer? Titus Brinker, head of the junior research group "Digital Biomarkers for Oncology" at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) and NCT Heidelberg, spoke about these topics with presenter Nabil Atassi on the SWR1 programme "Leute".

Robots are already being used in many operations, apps advise patients or support doctors in diagnosis and treatment planning. Titus Brinker, for example, has developed software that uses artificial intelligence to support doctors in skin cancer screening. In the programme, he also explains where digital applications can already be used today and in which areas digital solutions are being researched. He shows the advantages and possibilities, but also talks about the limits and responsibilities in medicine.
