NCT Run 2019: Overwhelming commitment to cancer research at NCT Heidelberg

5,579 runners took part in the 8th NCT charity run to take a stand against cancer and to collect donations for cancer research at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg through their participation. The result of 180,000 euros shows that they were more than successful. In addition, there is the income from the drinks stands.

With more than 5,500 registrations, the 8th NCT run set a new record of participants. The lap run was limited to 2,500 runners and already booked two weeks before the run. At 7:00 p.m., the starting shot was fired for the half marathon with 868 runners and for the 10-kilometer route with 2211 athletes. Half an hour later, the 2.4-kilometer lap across the Neuenheimer Feld began.

The numerous construction sites in Neuenheimer Feld once again posed a challenge for the organizers of the NCT run. Since the NCT Heidelberg and the cafeteria in front of the cafeteria could not be used due to the planned construction work, the run was reinvented and this time started at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science (ISSW). Thanks to the great support of the ISSW and the adjoining Olympic base (OSP), the running participants were offered an ideal infrastructure here.

Over 450 teams support the NCT run, including many people who have a personal connection to the event because a relative, friend or acquaintance has or has died from cancer - or because they themselves were diagnosed with cancer. Numerous companies of the region, including SAP, Roche, ProMinent, BWT and abbvie, came to the NCT run with their employees.

The company SAP provided particular motivation: the Walldorf-based software company and project partner of NCT sponsored each completed lap of the 2.4-kilometer route with an amount of 2.50 euros. The maximum number of 5,200 sponsored rounds was achieved thanks to the committed runners, thus winning a further 13,000 euros for cancer research.

The team with the most donations was "#A Kiwi Against Cancer" and contributed a total of 5,381 euros to the NCT Heidelberg. The “Kiwi Against Cancer” project was launched by employees of the “Kiwi Ideenfabrik” advertising agency: “Because we are affected ourselves and know how important and vital it is that research is not dormant, and because we hope that one day a person gets up with an idea that can defeat cancer. We would like that person to have the means and opportunities to advance and research this idea in such a way that this idea becomes a reality and that cancer may one day actually be defeated. "

Like last year, Jason Wright's band “The Wright Thing” and host Tom Haberer provided entertainment. This year, the sporting part was accompanied by Stefan Buchner from the sports agency m3. For the first time, the brass ensemble of the Collegium Musicum provided motivation under the motorway bridge and a good atmosphere on the running track.
