Treatment at NCT

As one of very few centers, we hold separate consultation sessions with physicians specialized in this rare illness. At first, we will examine the existing documents and, if necessary, order further tests.

The results are discussed in the tumor board meeting and an individual treatment plan is prepared. Specialists well acquainted with the clinical picture from the following disciplines take part in this tumor board meeting:

  • Surgery
  • Diagnostic and interventional radiology
  • Internal medicine (endocrinology and medical oncology)
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Pathology
  • Radiation therapy

Treatment is provided according to the treatment plan by the respective department (for example, surgery or nuclear medicine). Often, however, the patients are first treated as outpatients in the specialist outpatient clinic or the NCT day care unit, or, if necessary, admitted to the NCT ward for chemotherapy.

Examination methods/diagnostics

  • Surgery: in Prof. Büchler (Department of General, Visceral and Transplantation Surgery) we have an extremely competent surgeon, in particular for pancreatic tumors.
  • Drugs (somatostatin therapy, chemotherapies, sunitinib, everolimus, bone-protective medications, hormone therapy)
  • Nuclear medicine diagnostics (DOTATOC PET, DOPA PET, exendin4 PET) and therapy
  • Radiologic liver treatments (TACE, SIRT, or embolization)
  • Radiation therapies

Treatment and regular aftercare is coordinated via our special consultation sessions. Here you have a reliable contact person. Our counseling services at NCT are available to you and all our patients:

  • Nutrition counseling
  • Social services
  • Psycho-oncology service
  • Cancer Information Service
