New informational video: Help for fatigue in cancer patients
Fatigue affects up to 90 percent of all cancer patients and manifests itself in pronounced physical, emotional, or mental exhaustion. This can severely impair daily life and quality of life. However, there is often insufficient information about fatigue – a shortcoming that can increase uncertainty and stress for those affected and make it difficult to get help. International guidelines therefore recommend providing information about fatigue at an early stage, ideally at the beginning of therapy.
The EFA project* developed an informational video that educates patients about fatigue, provides practical tips for self-management, and draws attention to existing support services. From February to October 2025, an interdisciplinary team of scientists from the Department of Exercise, Cancer Prevention, and Survivorship at the DKFZ and NCT Heidelberg, as well as representatives of the NCT Heidelberg Patient Advisory Board, worked together on an animated video.
The result is now available: The video explains the background of fatigue in an understandable way, presents coping strategies, and lists suitable contact points for further help. The project was funded as part of the “Spenden gegen Krebs" (Donations Against Cancer) program at the NCT Heidelberg.
In order to reach as wide an audience as possible, the video is being produced in several languages – English, Turkish, and Arabic –in addition to German. The other language versions are expected to be released in November and will be distributed via various online platforms and channels to inform and support even more people affected by fatigue.
