Cancer Core Europe: Annual Meeting 2025 with strong Heidelberg participation

On March 10 and 11, 2025, the Cancer Core Europe (CCE) Annual Meeting took place in Amsterdam – an important forum with about 100 participants from the seven CCE member centers. The event provided a platform for intensive exchange on current developments in translational cancer research, innovative clinical trials, a common infrastructure for data sharing, cancer screening and prevention, and joint activities in education and training. Stefan Fröhling, Franziska Ippen and Manoj Waikar were among the Heidelberg participants who played a key role as speakers.
Stefan Fröhling, Managing Director at the NCT Heidelberg and Head of Translational Medical Oncology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), held a seminar on research into molecular targets in rare cancers. He presented various precision oncology programs at the DKFZ and the NCT that are helping to identify innovative treatment approaches for tumors that have been difficult to treat so far.
Franziska Ippen, a resident physician at the Department of Neurology at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), reported on the CCE TRYTRAC young investigator program and the CCE Summer School, and showed how international collaboration opens up valuable development opportunities for young physicians and scientists. She also provided insights into her current research on brain metastases.
Manoj Waikar, Department of Networked Information Systems at the DKFZ, provided an update on the development of the Virtual Data Center and insights into the use of the CCE Explorer platform, which enables optimized data integration and analysis.
The CCE Annual Meeting 2025 highlighted the value of international cooperation in cancer research. It provided an ideal platform for scientific and personal exchange, and the Heidelberg participants were able to provide valuable input on forward-looking topics.
