Peter Lichter farewelled from the Executive Board
At the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg, Peter Lichter was honored on the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director. His seat on the Executive Board will not be filled.
Peter Lichter is a molecular biologist and a highly decorated scientist. After completing his studies and earning his doctorate in Heidelberg, he conducted research at Yale University and, beginning in 1990, at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Starting in 1992, Peter Lichter headed the Department of Molecular Genetics there; in 2000, he was also appointed professor at the Heidelberg Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.
Peter Lichter was an exceptionally important pioneer for the NCT Heidelberg. During its founding period, he served as the interim successor to Harald zur Hausen as Scientific Director of the DKFZ. Peter Lichter spearheaded the establishment of the NCT Heidelberg, which was ultimately founded in 2004 under the sponsorship of the DKFZ, Heidelberg University Hospital, the Heidelberg Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University, the Heidelberg Thoracic Clinic, and German Cancer Aid.
From 2015 until his retirement, Peter Lichter, as a highly esteemed member of the Executive Board of the NCT Heidelberg, contributed to its sustained success with great dedication and extensive expertise.
