14th Rowing Against Cancer Regatta: sport, fun and 90,000 euros in donations
Bright sunshine, sporting ambition and a great deal of commitment were the hallmarks of the 14th Rowing Against Cancer charity regatta on September 13, 2025, which attracted numerous spectators to the banks of the Neckar in Heidelberg. A total of 78 boats with over 312 participants took to the starting line, including 3 teams from ActiveOncoKids once again. Patients, relatives, doctors and many other rowing enthusiasts battled for victory in 48 exciting heats.
In the end, it was not only sporting fun, but above all an impressive sponsorship and donation result: around 90,000 euros were raised during the charity regatta. The proceeds from the event will benefit the Exercise and Cancer Patient Program at the NCT Heidelberg. Over 200 helpers from the Heidelberg Rowing Society and the NCT Heidelberg ensured that everything ran smoothly, while 15 information stands with hands-on activities invited visitors to linger.
Interviews on stage, including with endurance athlete and cancer patient Miriam Paurat and Josha Salchow and Lennart Sass from the Los Angeles team of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, were fascinating. The exciting interviews were complemented by performances by dance groups with hands-on activities and live yoga by the Yoga and Cancer group. A special highlight was once again the rowing ergometer stand of Volksbank Kurpfalz, which donated one euro for every 100 meters rowed. A 10-year-old girl took advantage of the campaign and rowed over 30 kilometers in one go.
The sporting winners came from the region: MeineLieblingsBank #1 - Volksbank Kurpfalz eG, Heidelberg, won the women's category and Schlierbach Vierer - Heidelberg University Hospital - won the men's category. The mixed categories were won by AGC Biologics GmbH 4 - AGC Biologics GmbH, Heidelberg, Medipoliten 1 - Medipolis Süd GmbH, Weinheim and Die Ruderpioniere - Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg.
