Helmholtz President visits NCT Heidelberg

Martin Keller, President of the Helmholtz Association, visited the NCT Heidelberg today, January 23, 2026. Stefan Fröhling, Managing Director at the NCT Heidelberg and Head of the Department of Translational Medical Oncology at the DKFZ, explained the goals, main areas of work, and prospects of the NCT Heidelberg to him and his companions.

Martin Keller has been President of the Helmholtz Association since November 1, 2025. In the first few months of his term, he plans to personally visit the 18 research centers that make up the Helmholtz Association. He chose the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as the first stop on his introductory tour. The DKFZ is one of the sponsors of the NCT Heidelberg and, as the largest biomedical research institution in Germany, is part of the Helmholtz Association.

Upon taking office, Martin Keller said: "Together with the entire community, I would like to develop an agenda for change with clear goals in order to tackle the major challenges of our time in a solution-oriented manner. We have at most ten years to set the decisive course: in climate change, in energy supply, but also in medicine. We must act immediately, in close cooperation with our partners in politics, science, and industry."
