Great Turnout: 21st Heidelberg Cancer Patient Day Attracts 470 Participants
Engaging presentations, in-depth discussions, and a large turnout—approximately 470 patients, family members, and interested individuals made the 21st Heidelberg Cancer Patient Day, hosted by the NCT Heidelberg on March 14, a resounding success. The event took place at Heidelberg University Hospital and offered comprehensive information on current developments in oncology as well as numerous opportunities for personal exchange.
The morning program focused on clearly presented expert lectures on the topics of radiation therapy, molecular oncology, oncological surgery, immunotherapy, and clinical trials. The lectures in the lecture hall of the Department of Surgery were also broadcast live to another lecture hall and to online participants.
Following the lectures, the exchange format “Coffee with the Counseling Services” took place for the first time, allowing participants to learn about the services offered at NCT Heidelberg in a relaxed atmosphere.
During the lunch break, many participants took the opportunity to visit the exhibition in the foyer of the Medical Clinic. The active self-help network of the NCT Heidelberg was represented there with information booths. Visitors could engage in conversation with various self-help groups, partners, and exhibitors and learn about the work of the Patient Advisory Board and the Patient Research Council of the NCT Heidelberg.
In the afternoon, disease-specific expert forums offered the opportunity to discuss questions directly with doctors and representatives of self-help groups.
Cancer Patient Day is a key information and dialogue initiative of the NCT Heidelberg. It combines the latest findings from cancer research with practical information for patients and their families and promotes direct exchange between those affected, experts, and self-help groups. The high number of participants underscores the continuing strong interest and need for reliable, understandable information as well as personal conversations.
