1st Heidelberg Fellows Day on Clinical Cancer Research 2021

The first Heidelberg Fellows Day on Clinical Cancer Research took place on Monday, 05 July 2021 as a virtual networking event via Zoom.

The event under the motto "Exchange, Network, Collaborate" was an initiative of the Heidelberg School of Oncology of the National Centre for Tumour Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg and was organised in close cooperation with its partner programmes at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg and the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.

More than twenty fellows were given the opportunity to present their research projects from different focus areas of translational cancer research within the framework of an oral presentation or a scientific poster. In addition, there were various opportunities for exchange and space for discussion with present speakers, including Professor Carsten Müller-Tidow (Department of Hematology, Oncology and Rheumatology, Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD)); Professor Till Milde (Hopp Children's Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ), Department of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, Immunology and Pulmonology, UKHD), Professor Oliver Stegle (Division of Computational Genomics and Systems Genetics, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)), Professor Laurence Zitvogel (Institut Gustave Roussy, Paris) and Professor Frank Winkler (Department of Neurology, UKHD, Clinical Cooperation Unit Neurooncology, DKFZ).

The programme ended with the awarding of the poster prize, which went to three of the presenters.

Pre-registered participants then had the opportunity to take part in a a tailored soft skill workshop by the coaching company Schiller & Mertens with a focus on funding acquisition.

„As a research institution, the promotion of young scientists is of great concern to us. Thanks to all organisers involved, the event succeeded in building a bridge between excellent research on the one hand and young talents on the other“, says Professor Stefan Fröhling, Managing Director at the NCT Heidelberg.
