TRYTRAC: Training of future leaders for translational cancer research in Paris
As part of the fourth Cancer Core Europe (CCE) TRYTRAC workshop, 18 young clinical and translational cancer scientists met in Paris in June to exchange ideas and receive further training. Six participants of the interdisciplinary group from all over Europe were from the NCT Heidelberg.
CCE's TRYTRAC program stands for Training program of Young leaders in TRAnslational Cancer. It aims to train a new generation of decision-makers in translational cancer research, particularly to strengthen the interaction between clinical and translational researchers within CCE.
The main focus of the three-day workshop was applied immune-oncology. Key researchers gave presentations on various facets of immune-oncology, and the participants were offered individual leadership mentoring sessions. The training took place at the Gustave Roussy hospital, which focuses exclusively on cancer patients and is, therefore, unique in Europe. Gustave Roussy is also one of the seven CCE centers. During a guided tour of the hospital and the research laboratories, the participants gained insights into the work areas and equipment of the Gustave Roussy and the TRYTRACers from Paris.
Participants particularly appreciated the opportunity to interact with highly renowned leaders. The scientists received insider tips on various topics, such as designing complex clinical trials or applying for funding.
