Disadvantages after cancer: Current survey for young adults

Young adults who have faced the difficult time of cancer diagnosis and therapy want one thing most, according to the German Foundation for Young Adults with Cancer: to get back to life and work! However, many are confronted with unexpected hurdles on this path. Their cancer continues to be a stigma, even years after the acute phase. People often experience unequal treatment and unjustified discrimination despite having long been considered healthy. This includes, for example, discrimination regarding insurance, hiring processes, the appointment as a civil servant, and much more.

To resist this unequal treatment, the foundation has launched a campaign under the motto "Right to be forgotten." It aims to support young people affected by cancer on their way back to life without cancer. Part of the campaign is the "Disadvantage after cancer" survey, which aims to uncover cases of unequal treatment so that young sufferers can be offered help in the future. The survey is aimed at young adults who have experienced disadvantage after overcoming their cancer.

The survey intends first to collect reports on experiences, which will provide a basis for identifying the structural problems and difficulties and, in a second step, to work out suitable offers of help.
