Our group/department has:

  • demonstrated that stimulation of CD95 on adult neural stem cells increases their survival and differentiation into the neuronal lineage. CD95-induced neurogenesis positively influences working memory and repair of the ischemic brain (Cell Stem Cell 2009, 5:178-90).
  • demonstrated that activation of CD95 expressed on myeloid cells promotes the recruitment of these cells to the site of inflammation (Immunity 2010, 32:240-52).
  • Demonstrated that the Wnt antagonist, Dickkopf-1 (Dkk1), increases in the old brain to inhibit production of new neurons. Deletion of Dkk1 reduces age-related cognitive decline and improves mood (Cell Stem Cell 2013; 12, 204-214).
