Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology


Our group/department has:

  • We achieved the differentiation between pancreatic adenocarcinoma, pancreatitis and normal pancreatic parenchyma using novel methods of functional imaging, such as diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI). Furthermore we implemented the differentiation between pancreatic lesions and fibrosis applying advanced algorithms for DW-MRI (SFB/TR 125 Cognition Guided Surgery Project R01; Klauss-M et al. Invest Radiol 2011; Klauss-M et al. Invest Radiol 2013)
  • We showed that Dual Energy Perfusion CT (DECT) is capable to differentiate between pancreatic adenocarcinoma and normal pancreatic parenchyma even in so far invisible isodense tumors because of different perfusion patterns using color-coded-maps (SFB/TR 125 Cognition Guided Surgery Project R02; Klauss-M et al. Eur J Radiol 2013)
  • We found that the Durie-Salmon and Durie-Salmon PLUS staging systems of monoclonal plasma cell diseases were discordant in 55% of all examined patients demonstrating that treatment decisions depend on the staging system used (Fechtner-K et al. Radiology 2010)
  • We defined novel CT morphological parameters reflecting histomorphological growth patterns of pulmonary adenocarcinomas (BMBF German Center for Lung Research; Lederlin-M et al. Eur Resp J 2013)
  • We showed high clinical success and low complication rates of CT-guided bipolar and multipolar radiofrequency ablation of renal cell cancer without deterioration of the renal function (Sommer-CM et al. Cardiovasc Intervent Radiol 2013)
