NCT Research

Clinical Cancer Research Program in Colorectal Cancer

The program offers comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment concepts and innovative clinical trials (e.g., SYNCHRONOUS, Rahbari BMC Cancer 2012), PANDORA (Combs BMC Cancer 2012), MICORYX (von Knebel-Doeberitz Fam Cancer 2013), and MARACON). Strong epidemiological cohorts (DACHS, BLITZ, ColoCare) support NCT research projects (e.g., Miller Lancet 2013, Brenner J Clin Oncol 2012, and JAMA 2010). A DFG-funded clinical research unit (KFO 227) aims to delineate key mechanisms of CRC metastasis (e.g., Dieter Cell Stem Cell 2011; Kloor J Clin Oncol 2011 and Lancet Oncol 2012; Rahbari J Clin Oncol 2012).

CCRP Colorectal Cancer

Scientific Goals

  • Molecular basis of CRC growth, invasion, metastases and resistance (e.g., KFO 227)
  • Systematic characterization of tumor–host immune interactions.
  • Understand functional and genetic heterogeneity of tumor initiating cells and develop therapeutic targets using RNAi and small substance library screens.
  • Developing novel approaches for therapy and prevention of microsatellite-unstable CRC.
  • Identify molecular markers for prevention and early detection.
  • Translation of novel predictive and prognostic markers into diagnostic assays.
