Heidelberg University Hospital Certified Breast Center

The Heidelberg University Hospital Breast Center is one of the largest of its kind in Germany, with nearly 700 newly diagnosed cases and more than twice that number of cases with relapse or metastatic breast cancer per year. The hospital's catchment area extends far beyond the region—in particular because of its excellent reputation and its association with the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). The Breast Center was first certified in 2003.
Because of its size and since it collaborates with Heidelberg University, there are multiple connections to basic and translational research; as such, the Breast Center presents itself as an outstandingly competent and high-performance institution. In spite of the large number of patients, the dedicated staff succeed in achieving a high degree of patient orientation and personal care. The well-organized outpatient clinic, run in an interdisciplinary manner by medical oncologists, gynecologists, and radiologists, as well as the very competent nursing staff with numerous nurses specialized in breast care, oncology, and palliative care, contribute to this aim.
