The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg offers a wide variety of services to cancer patients and their physicians. Practicing doctors and clinicians can refer their oncology patients to the NCT for diagnosis, treatment planning, and to obtain a second opinion. The recommended treatment can be carried out entirely in the NCT or jointly with the referring physician or other institutions. The main contact point is the Interdisciplinary Tumor Outpatient Unit. The Tumor Outpatient Unit procedures include rapid organisation and performance of required diagnostic measures, prompt issuance of treatment recommendations by an interdisciplinary expert tumor board on the basis of thorough consideration of all findings, and, if necessary, referral of patients to an appropriate collaborating specialty department. Close collaboration with referring colleagues is an important goal at every stage of these processes.
In addition, the NCT offers a number of oncology-related continuing education events for professionals as well as the general public, such as the regular Heidelberg “Grand Rounds” or various symposiums focusing on specific topics in research and clinical medicine.
Physicians working at the NCT can complete specialist training in the fields of internal medicine, hematology and oncology.
